The Whole Cloth reading series

Introducing a new reading series: The Whole Cloth, an uncut reading of an entire book of poems.

I was moved to start this series to find a way to support an experience of deep attention, unhurried listening, and sinking into the text as it is read by its author. Poetry merits lingering, and I am curious to see how these long-form readings will affect the experience of the text.

I also want to encourage connection across the US/Canadian border. Our inaugural poet is Sherwin Bitsui, sharing his most recent work from Copper Canyon Press, Dissolve. The series has potential to be held in satellite locations in Canada and other beyond.

Sherwin’s beautiful book is a perfect beginning. Join us on Wed Jan 29, 2020 at 8pm in the extremely comfortable living room setting of Green College at UBC. Sherwin anticipates the book will take just over an hour to read, which leaves us time for discussion.

Free, all welcome, accessible, snacks and hot beverages. Thank you to UBC Creative Writing, Green College, Alix Ohlin, Ian Williams, Andrea Bennett and Doris Cheung for the support!
